Why are theaters so 3D crazy?

I want to take my little girl to see Kung Fu Panda 2 tomorrow, but none of the 5 theaters around me have a normal showing. They’re all 3D. I doubt my kid would keep the goggles on and 3D gives me a killer headache. Is this the future? See the movie and get a headache, or just shut up and stay at home?!
