Is it possible to put a key logger,or in any other way, spy on an iPad that uses a data plan?

Realizing that nothing is really secure on the Internet, just how secure is an iPad or iPhone?
Not referring to location information here but actual access to things written.

It is not hard at all. There are plenty of legitimate tools out there that do this very thing.
We utilize one tool called spector soft360 to monitor suspect employee activity.
it’s not ethical, but it’s certainly possible.
@blueiiznh but it doesn’t actually run on the iPad and iPhone, does it?
In the US, just call your local FBI’s office and ask them to forward you the info about any of your electronic communication they get freely (under the newly renewed Patriot Act) from AT&T.
A benifit of your tax dollars hard at work, in the land of the free. ;)
No, they do not run on the iOS. The only levels who might be able to keylog a random user’s activity would be the FBI(or the various alphabet agencies), via phone records. One must have physical access to compromise an iOS device.
Even then, the phone companies aren’t recording keystrokes.
@morphail There is a beta tool for the iPad. It acts as an agent creating recorder files for security personel to review. There are other agentless tools out there that capture and decode at the Network layer.
@WillWorkForChocolate it is ethical when it is part of the corporate computer usage policy and protecting corporate information.
Most issues with threats and breaches of data start from within.
@blueiiznh is there something that will run on my iPad and record my keystrokes without me knowing about it?
@morphail ActyMac DutyWatch and aobo have ipad keyloggers
@blueiiznh But is there something that will run on an iPad and log keystrokes on the iPad without the user of the iPad knowing about it? I’m guessing no.
Yes, they run silently and can get pushed silently
@blueiiznh How? How do you install something on iOS without the user knowing about it? I don’t think it’s possible.
@blueiiznh Oh I get it when it comes to corporate info and such, but for personal use, it’s totally wrong. One of my online accounts got majorly hacked last year by a keylogger.
The iPad needs to be jailbroken.
@blueiiznh is spreading muck. No app can operate, much less be installed, without the user’s permission and knowledge. iOS is not hackable unless jailbroken.
@squirbel it is in corporate policy that computers are and can be monitored. Security organizations job is to protect the corporate data.
Far from muck.
It is far from just the NSA or FBI that can do things like that.
Nearly every piece of software has silent install capability.
Not on iOS. Not without handling the iPad physically. Can’t be done.
Corporate policies don’t do much for jumping the hurdle of getting a hold of someone’s device.
Now if the device were handed out by the companies, sure, I can see that.
But at the beginning of the thread you went off on some conspiracy tangent and it is unrelated in most ways.
@squirbel Even if the device is handed out by the company, the company still can’t run an application on it without the user knowing. The only way it could currently work is if Apple made it part of iOS itself.
