What are some good Temp Agencies for tech companies in Los Angeles?

Asked by DrewJ (436points) June 1st, 2011

I’m trying to leave the Entertainment Industry and get into the Tech Industry. While I study to improve my skill set (Programming knowledge) I’d like to get an entry level job at a good company, or even temp somewhere. I’m a complete newbie, I’m learning Rails but am still in the early stages. I’m wondering 2 things:

1) I know there are Temp Agencies specific to the Entertainment Industry here in Los Angeles, are there agencies specific to the tech industry here (or anywhere?) as well, if so, any recommendations? Also looking for placement agencies.

2) Are there jobs at these companies that someone like me (someone with no experience and just starting out) could get to get my foot in the door? Again, I can’t code just yet, but perhaps there are other things?

This one is pretty good. I worked for them in Florida.

I work in HR . . . I’d say to be wary of any temp. agency. They could be great, they could end up being a complete waste of your time.

Get in touch with people at the tech companies you want to work for, call their HR department, and simply ask them which agencies they use to fill their positions. Then reach out to those companies.

Temp. recruiters are simply sales people, they get paid when they fill a position, (and like many sales people will lie to get the job done). Just b/c a temp. recruiter says “oh yes, we work with Google” doesn’t mean they do. For all you know it could mean they called Google HR a few times to set up meetings to try and persuade Google HR to use their services. Take anything they say with a grain of salt.

Go straight to the companies you want to pursue and find out from them which agencies you should use.
