How do you pose for photos?

Asked by Facade (22937points) June 2nd, 2011

Taking photos is so awkward; I never know what to do

Hands on hips?
Arms folded?
Head tilted?
Straight on?
Smile?
No smile?
...Duck face?

I avoid the camera, if I can. I hate to pose. Random shots are better.

I had mine taken at glamour shots one time, and it looked good. but they did my hair and makeup too.

My signature pose… looking down and only focusing on my outfit. I do think for my blog, lookbook and youtube ;D

As seldom as possible. I prefer to be on the other end of the camera. And when I am taking photos, I prefer to follow someone around shooting until I get something good. I hate posed pictures. It’s like trying to win entry to a wax museum. While you’re alive.

I don’t like posing for photos. I’ll try and smile, but will rarely show teeth unless someone makes me laugh (which I suppose isn’t all that difficult, really.) Candid photos taken by friends and loved ones are far more special to me.

I am the picture taker, not the picture poser.

Depends, if i’m with the kids i’ll probably be fooling around. If I was alone though, just a cool fixed stare into the lens & smile baby smile!

Here’s what I say to folks when I’m trying to get them to look natural in a picture. “Act like you know each other!” They ususually laugh and smile, naturally, and move in closer to each other.

If it’s a single person, I will often tell them to gaze off into another direction, rather than to stare directly at the camera. It looks more natural, or I will tell them to face the camera, but have their eyes looking over to the side, then I’ll say, “Think of a happy thought.” That usually gets people to smile a natural smile (even if it’s just a closed mouth grin) but it looks better than a big fake smile. If someone is just standing and I want their arms to appear natural, it’s best to give them something to hold, like a flower or a book or a hat or a spatula (if they’re in the kitchen).

Depending on who is taking the picture, I’ll joke around and be difficult for a few shots-making faces, do a silly “model” pose, or something along those lines. I only do this if the photographer is someone I know so I’ll feel more relaxed. It’s really hard to feel relaxed and natural if it’s someone I don’t know very well taking the picture.

Depends on how much alcohol I’ve imbibed…

Normally, I don’t have much of a pose, except that I’m usually smiling. Often I’ll have my hand around someone’s else because it’s rare that I’ll have a picture taken of me by myself. Now of course if I’ve been drinking, then any kind of goofy face (including sticking out my tongue) or goofy pose can happen, it just depends. :P

I never smile because I hate my teeth. I have a tendency to smirk instead. After going through my facebook profile pictures, I’ve realized that I don’t ever pose the same way twice, it seems.

Oh wait, I did find a picture that I’m actually smiling in.

I hate smiling and I like my teeth. :/ I just hate having my teeth taken.

Turn slightly to the side, bend my chin down a bit and look straight into the camera lens and smile.
