Are you Australian? Could you help me with the price of specific goods?

Asked by trailsillustrated (16804points) June 3rd, 2011

I am Australian. I have been out of the country for eight years. I am returning in July to South Australia. I would like to know : The price of a packet of winfield blues. The price of a litre of petrol. The price of a six pack of foster’s ice light beer. Thankyou anyone that knows.

Petrol is about $1.50/L across the parts of the country I’m familiar with. I have no idea about the cigarettes sorry. The Fosters should be about $20 – $25 I’d guess.

G’day mate welcome h’ome well bugger me if your coming home at the right time will add more to the bloody demand cycle. The price of cigs 25pack $13.50, fuel is $1.52 Lt. grogs not as bad only $25 in the country. West end Draught can be picked up for $41.00 for a pack of thirty.

I love this country, it is my home now, but wow oh wow, it is so damned expensive to live just about anywhere in any state! I just paid $1.46.8 for unleaded in NQ. It cost me almost $7 to fill my scooter. If it gets any more expensive, I will have to switch to the pushy!

Don’t know about ciggies or beer, but the respondents above seem to know the story.

@rooeytoo bugger all I almost fainted when I saw that- seriously oh my god I’m really freaked out now

@trailsillustrated – Where are you living now? And seems like you said before you were from WA. I have a friend who recently moved to Freo and she tells me the prices there are even worse than Darwin. They say it is the fault of the mining industry, they pay such high salaries it drives supply and demand and away it goes. When you come back, better look for a job with a mine!

And I hope you aren’t a banana eater because they are 12.95 a kilo and supposed to go higher yet!

@rooeytoo I am in the pacific nw- example: packet of smokes EXACT comparison to winnie blues: 4.95 usd. Petrol for my car: 4.00 per US gallon. Six pack beer: 8.00 usd HEINEKEN for gods sake! Heineken!! I’m in a cold sweat I’m already committed I’m really scared now

@trailsillustrated – I do have to say that I think salaries are higher here, at least in jobs such as supermarket workers, that level of employment. I think it almost evens out. Unless you are old, then you are in serious trouble, pensions are pathetic and you can’t get it if you have practically any other income. And no one will hire you because you are old, heheheh! I tell my husband, who was born here, he should renounce his citizenship, then come back in as an illegal immigrant. They get housed and fed and clothed for free! In the airport hotel in Darwin.

Hey maybe you should try that too!!!

@rooeytoo I am in such a cold panic I just tripped over the dog. I am madly gobbling xanax. the worst part is, my money is in usd. -6c on the the dollar. Yes I am old. Now I have to pass out. The good part: I’m going to adelaide. : )

rooeytoo's avatar

hehehe, too bad you’re not coming to tropical Qld, we could be bff!

Adelaide is the least expensive capital city in which to live, you will be fine!

trailsillustrated's avatar

@rooeytoo im still going to bug you even from adelaide hehehe yes I’ll be fine if I ever recover enough to actually get on the plane

In your honor, I have changed my avatar to a photo of Town Dog in Glenelg! :-)

Just wondered why everything seems so expensive? $25 bucks for a six pack? Upstate NY in the USA.

trailsillustrated's avatar

@rooeytoo that’s where I’ll be! glenelg! ahh cute pic!

rooeytoo's avatar

That is a great choice of location, I love Glenelg. My only complaint would be it gets so damned cold! That is why I stay in the north, although it is 16 this morning and I am shivering!!!

trailsillustrated's avatar

how the hell do you ride a scooter around when it’s hotter than hades and with a hat on??? I love glenelg too

rooeytoo's avatar

I love my scooter, it is like the ultimate convertible or soft top car and I always loved those as well. It does get hot under the helmet but in the summer I usually switch to my Harley half helmet, not as protective but not as hot either. My scooter can beat just about anything away from the traffic lights. I love nothing better than easily beating the young guys in their hot cars! They say OMG I was just whipped by an old lady on a motor scooter, heheheh! Makes my day. You will have to get one to ride around Glenelg, it will be perfect and so easy to find a parking place with a scooter!

@rooeytoo I have certainly thought about it- but I just can’t imagine no air condition and my brain cooking under that hat. Last time I was there it got to 37c in glenelg.
