Are there any other books similar to the Hunger Games?

I just read the Hunger Games series and it was amazing. Are there any other books similar to them? I like the whole romance and action theme.

Part of what I read about on Wikipedia (teens having a sanctioned fight to the death) sounds a lot like Steven King (writing as Richard Bachman) in The Long Walk.

Granted, I only read the first chapter of the first book, but I know what they’re about.

I would suggest Anathem. It’s actually not that similar to the Hunger Games. It’s longer, denser, and more about science than politics and action. And it’s really boring in the beginning. But it is about a kid in a strange but familiar world, and the action at the end of the book is amazing. (Some romance, too). A longshot, and it’s a lot harder to read—it’s not “young adult literature,” it’s hard science fiction—but you might like it a lot. It’s my favorite SF book.

Another one of my favorites, much more young-adult than Anathem: House of the Scorpion — it takes place in a future dystopia, the main character is a clone who is owned by a pharaoh-like drug lord.

Finally, another YA book series: His Dark Materials. The first book takes place in a parallel universe and the main character is a runaway girl. It also has awesome armored talking polar bear fights. Don’t judge the book by the movie, which was godawful (and if you haven’t seen the movie yet, don’t bother).

I really enjoyed reading this series as well.

I agree with @WasCy – this recalled many memories of The Long Walk by Stephen King.

I should have mentioned this earlier. If what you’re enjoying is Ms. Collins’ writing, then by all means check out another series of hers, the Underland Chronicles. Start in the beginning with Gregor The Overlander. If I’m not mistaken, there are four books following that. It was a little sci-fi for me (think giant, talking cockroaches), but I think if I was younger, they would really appeal to me. Happy reading – anything that catches your fancy enough to read it is a good thing!
