Is there a homemade recipe for the stuff that you put in a reed diffuser?

Asked by josie (30934points) June 5th, 2011

You know, those little bottles with the sticks in them that produce a pleasant ambient aroma?

I have a couple of those things sitting around my condo, and it is no trouble buying more of the solution that contains the scent.

But I was just wondering if there was a cheap and effective home-made alternative?

I’d love some recipies too… I have tried using aromotherapy oils mixed with a bit of water, this worked well, but didn’t last too long

Michael’s Crafts sells a lot of fragrance oils for candles/soaps and potpourri. I bought a few to mix my own signature scent (lemon, grapefruit and new-mown grass) that I use in a light bulb heat diffuser. Now I’m going to see how well it works with reeds. I have grapeseed oil that I got at the health food store in bulk. It’s a really light oil so we’ll see. Thanks for the idea!

I would recommend this book link i saw on Oprah the other day, There are decent aromatherapy recipes that you can do at home.

I knew I had seen some of the base that could be bought easily so you could blend your own scents. I run into these types of supplies from time to time, looking for soap making stuff.
