What are the cheapest ways to redecorate your room?
I really have been wanting to redecorate my room for soo long. Painting is out of the question because my mothers favorite color is biege. Gross! Not good enough for a person my age.
But I was wondering, was there anyway to draw attention away from this wonderful color? I would love to hear your ideas!

How about adding vibrant colors with posters, tapestries, decorative pillows, and even rugs? They ‘pop’ when set against a neutral background.
Think about what you like. If it’s music, you can build a great wall collage of old LPs you can get practically for free at Goodwill along with broken instruments.
I did a room with a worn out old trumpet, flute, clarinet, violin and guitar that I hung on one wall with some old LP records and wrote “La Musica” in a large script font on a beige wall.
Ok I had a similar situation where I couldn’t paint and was designing a nursery, I took leftover fabric that I had made leaves and coconuts and went to home depot where I got a $20 piece of finished wood for the trunk that I created into a coconut tree then I took removable decals you can buy now a days for only $21.00 and put them in the room and put them up here is the results
FYI… home depot will cut wood to any size and length as long as you purchase it there. Same with Lowes
that’s excellent @creative1
I had a similar thing where I had Home Depot cut down an 8’ x 6’ piece of pvc trellis for me into 12” sections that I used as a room border (instead of wallpaper or stencil) I threaded through silk vines that I picked up at yard sales and dollar stores and tacked up a wall of cork board and for a natural photo collage of a rainforest.. I think it ran me about $45 for everything including cartridge ink and photo paper.
Yard sales are also a good source. You get to see the actual item and can sometimes negotiate on the price. The sellers just want it sold before succumbing to giving it away..
There also might be an opportunity to refinish an existing piece of furniture. A friend passed on a dresser that I stripped and painted. The cost was minimal. A sister picked up a few chairs and had a student of hers teach her how to re-cane them. Another sister took a quilt when our grandmother died and created a new cover for it using materials she got for free. In each of these cases, we learned new skills, and it cost very little except for the time involved.
Maybe picking out an interesting puzzle and framing then hanging it up on your wall would be cool. I have a Where’s Waldo puzzle waiting to be displayed and I really like it, not to mention it catches people’s eyes when they take a look around. If you decide to do this, you’ll have to flip the puzzle over and glue it so it doesn’t fall apart in the framing process, but be careful when flipping it over, it’s a tricky job. And I find that elmer’s liquid glue works when gluing; real puzzle glue is a waste and they don’t give enough. ~~good luck on redecorating ;D
@Blueroses That sounds like a an awesome idea I can really picture that one. @astrix24 figure out what you really like and you can create it and attach it rather than paint it on. It can you can make it 3D instead of 2D…. I love @Blueroses idea where you can utuilize cork board and make a photo collage of your friends and interests, what kinds of things do you like and maybe we can help you come up with something on that line you can attach to your wall that can be made with the cork board and you can interchange photos you love.
Cork board tends to be really inexpensive and great for hanging pictures.
@creative1 Cork is really cheap if you order it through an online supplier! Teachers use it and I’ve found it for .19 per sf. I also used it in a basement to cover up outdated paneling when someone didn’t have the money to tear it out and it made a perfect wall for hanging a dartboard!
- Have some fun with paint chips.
– Create a light fixture out of found material. Like “this one” made of plastic hangers.
– Give some old beat-up furniture some unexpected TLC. Reupholster an office chair with an old sweater. Or knit a cozy for your nightstand.
