What's a good aerobic sport choice for me?

Asked by pallen123 (1519points) June 6th, 2011

I get bored easily. Bored getting on a treadmill, even with headphones. I like tennis but hard to find open indoor court and partner. What’s a good aerobic sport that will keep me distracted while I’m doing it? I live in Ohio so half the year I need to be indoors…

Tennis is wonderful, when I play I totally forget how much running I am doing all I care is to chase and hit the ball and when your not good at the game your running around alot. Great exercise. I wouldn’t realize until I came home and sat down to relax but just fell asleep because I was so tired and sleep till morning. I couldn’t believe I was so tired.

Great form of exercise!!!

Martial arts.

I say Zumba also. If you like to dance it is great.

I also love swimming, but maybe that would be boring to you also?

Squash! A word of caution though, you will sweat bullets :¬)

Dance is great. It very challenging, and there are so many different types to choose from so i don’t think you’ll get bored as easily.
I suggest contemporary since it can suit all body types. :)

Good luck.

Fencing!

Very athletic, but the actual combat is done in short intense bursts. Training and conditioning is usually done in groups, whichhelps keep you from getting bored.

How about water aerobics? It’s a great workout, you don’t need to know how to swim, its fun, and it’s also low impact on your joints! If your local gym or recreation center has an indoor pool, they might offer classes. I live in NYC and my local ‘Y’ has an indoor pool and the classes are free with membership.

Have you considered a Wii? I got one as a present last year and like it. It doesn’t require a membership, I don’t have to leave the house, and can wear whatever I want. It came with a workout program that tracks your weight, performance, etc. It includes a mixture of aerobics and yoga. There is also tennis program as well. And the bonus is that anyone can use it.

Taebo is pretty fun but is challenging at the same time.

Basketball? Indoor Soccer?

Basketball you can play with one person, courts are easy to find, and it’s always challenging.

Indoor soccer has leagues for different skills levels (I started without ever having played soccer before and wasn’t made to feel like a moron), is exhausting (more like hockey rules than soccer), and gives you something to run for on the off days.

If none of the suggestions here fit, maybe find a training partner? I think it’s always easier to get through something with someone else doing the same.

Fencing as said above, archery also… maybe ballet. Or dancing class of some sort, or gymnastics. Or you could go for the Annual International Turnip Races, if you’re interested I am a professional Turnip breeder.
