What one contributing factor helped America to win World War II?

Asked by john65pennington (29273points) June 6th, 2011

The Japanese were intercepting our codes and military plans without any difficulty. It was to the point that the turn of the war was heading in favor of the Japanese, because of this problem. America was at a standstill. Someone came up with a terrific suggestion that practically saved the war for the United States. Question: what was this suggestion?

Well in the Pacific Theater, it was the Windtalkers. aka Navajo code talkers

Shooting at them also seems to have helped. I doubt we would have won otherwise. ~

Honestly, “quiz” questions about something as debatable as the critical decisions of a war seem a bit odd. Also, using Native Americans as code talkers was nothing new.

I read that radar also played a big part, and Hitler made the mistake of bombing Britain’s planes instead of their radar. The best offense is defense, right?

Is this a ‘one right answer’ question, or something up for debate?

When he brought up the whole intelligence aspect, it seemed pretty obvious he was talking about the Wind Talkers, using a language that the Japanese were utterly baffled by.

Personally I think the biggest turning point is Guadalcanal, but everyone has their own argument for what ensured victory in that Theater (victory is never ensured until it’s over in my honest opinion though).

@King_Pariah Indeed. I have no doubt yours is the intended “correct” response. You are right, though, to question whether or not the answer key in this case is itself accurate.

In my opinion it was this

Japanese were still willing to fight until we dropped a couple of these.

Err, that’ll be the allied forces!

There is not one contributing factor that helped win WWII, but many. The base of industry that was able to gear up to produce planes, tanks, trucks, etc. for the whole mechanized war, without being bombed is one. The US bomb sites is another. Control of oil refineries. Development of the SeeBees, who could essentially go in and build bases and air strips in a matter of days.

Canada, the Soviet Union, Great Britain, China, Norway, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and all the other countries who fought for the allies, and most of whom were fighting the war long before American even became involved.

The same that made the difference in the American Civil War. Large-scale manufacturing capabilities and good food supply.
