My friend decided to work 28 hours a week while on social security disability and now they say they want to garnish her check, but so far have not given her the right amount minus what they said she would have to pay back. Are you allowed to work at all while receiving disability?

The ticket to work program allows you to make up to (I believe) $800 per month. The goal, of course is to get you off of disability if you can.
For 2011 its actually $1000 according to the guidlines that are online @Judi if you go over thats when they deduct
You get disability because you are unable to work. Your friend should go to the SS office and be sure she isn’t doing anything fraudulent.
@perspicacious I believe that is not quite right. People get SSI because they cannot support themselves from the job positions they’d be able to do. Therefore, many that get SSI still work at grocery store check outs, Goodwill-etc. I have a special needs cousin and am positive he’s on SSI, and gets paid a wage at his job
@SpatzieLover SSI is NOT disability, it is welfare (Suplemental Security Income). SSID is welfare disability (meaning the person is disabled but never worked enough to be able to get regular Social Security Disability (SSD). The questioner asked about SSD, not SSI or SSID. My response is correct.
