How often do you get a new mobile phone?

When do you usually change it? Is it on a yearly period? Maybe you change it with the trend, or when it’s too old?

Every twenty to twenty four months.
Got an iPhone 4 after my Motorola Droid (original) died. It had lasted about 1.5 years. I can’t imagine going much longer than that. Verizon only has the 2 year contracts now, however, so I am not sure how to manage this other than to buy full retail and sell on ebay when it’s time for me to upgrade.
I change when my old phone gets wonky and can’t hold a decent charge anymore. I’m about to do that now and I haven’t figured out yet how to use the features on the old one! I’m missing the 20th century!
I change it when it gets too water damaged. ;)
I’ve had mine for about 2 and a half years now.
It’s a dumbphone, but I figure it hasn’t broken yet and the contract just ran out so I guess I’d get a new one soon.
I think I had my last phone before the one I have now for four or five years. I would like to replace the one I have at one or two years, but I expect I’ll have to keep it until it is ridiculously old. But I want a phone that can be a hot spot.
I do not change them that often.
I have the same one for like 4 years now [ maybe 5 ]
If it still works and I can hear the other person speaking then it’s good enough ^^
4 years and counting. I pay for 50 minutes a month and rarely use it up
The first mobile I had was an ancient, bulky brick that went from my dad, to my older brother, to me. I was not happy with it as sending text messages was difficult, its size made it impossible to keep in my pocket, and it lacked an option to check e-mail (which I need.) When I was a sophomore, my dad bought me a new one. It’s three years old now and I wouldn’t mind replacing it, but it’s not necessary.
I know people who purchase new phones on a regular basis. I don’t understand that.
I seem to have been getting a new one every 1–2 years…I last changed from an iPhone 3GS (it no longer held a charge) to an HTC Thunderbolt and I do not regret it, though I wish it were white… :)
I keep it until I break it or drop it in the toilet. Typically once every 4 years.
My contracts usually run for 2 years, I decide at the end of that period whether I want a new phone or whether I stick the one I have. I changed my phone last September after keeping my previous (easy to use) phone for 4 years.
When my contract expires on older technology. Then I upgrade at the same price to a better system and phone, whatever that will procure.
My fiancĂ© decides for me. I’ve had more cell phones since I’ve been with him.
But I personally had my phone for 4 years. It was a good phone it survived several years of being thrown. I can’t do that now.
I don’t follow mobile phone trend. I only change my cellphone based on my necessity. Blackberry is the most popular mobile phone trend (anything except iphone is considered as outdated) in my country and I don’t give a shit about it. Not even a bit. I’ve been using my dual-cameras Nokia cellphone for years, maybe 6 years.
Whenever I tell my mobile phone provider that I think they’re too expensive and I’m intending to cancel my account, they upgrade my phone for free. About every 18 months or so.
Rarely. If my phone is broken, I’ll replace it. Otherwise, I’m not bothered.
I used to get one when mine broke. For the most part it was every time it broke, but then I used to get it when I was up for a new one unless I really enjoyed my current phone.
About every two years or earlier if it breaks.
Every two years, as my contract expires.
I haven’t gotten a new one for four years.
3 to 4 years. After years of paying so much money to a major carrier, got a pre-paid cell last year. : )
Not for the last 8 years, but there’s a Motorola Droid on it’s way to my house as we speak…:)
And the best part, @mazingerz88, is that I’m getting said phone free with a two year contract…
I’ve been using this one for about 8 yrs. It’s a Nokia 3595 that does everything I need. The phone was smashed early on when I fell out of my truck and was forced to buy another one. I kept the damaged one to use for parts and battery so I’ve been making needed repairs to keep it going. When my carrier was bought out I had to get another calling plan and found a new carrier whose simcard would pop right in my old phone. I had to get their phone and rob the card from it for my old one so great…no new painful learning curve with a new devise. Eventually this one is going to croak and I will have to revisit the plan phone and hurt myself figuring it out with its microscopic buttons.
Ah, nah. I got my mobile last year. First one I’ve ever had. It’s one of those flip phones from the end of the nineties, but manufactured recently, for poor people. Everybody laughs at me because touching the screen doesn’t do anything, and that its major function is to talk to people. But I don’t care, I like my little phone.
To quote Vunessuh and her lucky foam; me and my phone forever yo.
I get that “I haven’t seen one of those in years” whenever someone takes notice of mine. It isn’t long before they become antiques. I can’t get any accessories for this one unless I scour ebay. I did manage to score a faceplate for it for 3 bucks. The screen was hazy and hard to use because of it being inside the leather case and rubbing on the inside surface. All in all it looks almost new even though it has been dropped more times than I can remember.
