Thats what people are saying. My mom went to Costco a few days ago and they put a limit on how many bags of rice customers can purchase. She said people were in there buying the large brown sacks of basmati rice like crazy, the limit was 5 per customer. Crazy.

In China Town here you can still buy a 50lbs. bag of rice for like $8.oo

There is no rice shortage in the US! There was a great story on Marketplace about what is going one. The price on rice is rising. Since Costco and Sam’s Club do not make money on their products, but rather their memberships, they can’t break even on rice anymore so they are limiting the amount of rice you can buy in one trip. But it is hardly a limit. How many times a week do you really need to buy 80 lbs of rice?

Thank you mygolden, that is the story I was looking for.

Cheers! (raises rice saki martini in the air)

I think costco and SAMs mark up their items. They can’t pay those bills solely on membership. The limit would effect business owners who make that much rice in a day and rely on the ability to purchase it in bulk from those stores.

Water shortage? Or is that a thing already? It WILL BE (dun dun dun, ominous noise).

dont worry, no shortage of rice this year as analysts are predicting BUMPER crops in India and China

I just asked a question about rice too. There seems to be some sort of HAPPENING going on.

I’m frightened.
