My mom and I get this sometimes. Strange patches of painful skin. It’s like prickly painful when you touch it. Usually on our inner elbows and forearms. It’s not red, or inflamed, or dry skin or anything. Just looks normal and gets super painful? Normal? Or are we freaks?

Contact dermatitis, just a guess. You may be putting your elbow/forearm on a surface with an irritant.
Doesn’t look irritated though and never lasts more than a day :/ I used to get contact dermatitis on my hands at my job and that’d get itchy and red and painful.
I would guess nerve related. Some sort of freak firing of the nervous system. Check your B12 levels. Is it near an area where you get herpetic outbreaks, shingles? Do you and your mom get it in the same area of your body? Or, had some sort of injury in the area, like an RSD reaction?

Freaks. Hahahaha. Just kidding. I used to have pain in my upper thighs. Felt like tons of pin pricks, seemed like it was in every hair follicle. Showering was painful, as the water hit the area already irritated. It would last for months and then subside. It’s been years since it has happened. I do get shingles on my backside, I thought it might be related, but can’t be sure. I have had shingles outbreaks since, but the skin pain in my thighs has not acted up. Honestly, I don’t think you will get a clear diagnosis, but if it got bad you could probably try a drug like neurotin?
I would guess that since it happens to the both of you on the same spot that it may be some genetic link. I agree it sounds like it may be a nerve problem. I would get my thyroids checked.
My mom has rheumatoid arthritis… Could it be something with that?
No I don’t but I doubt you are freaks. Does sound unusual though if it is very localised and you both get it? Allergic reaction to something in your surroundings?
