My friend had a cough, went to the Dr got diagnosed with Walking Pneumonia, is been on antibiotics and an inhaler for almost 10 days and no signs of improvement. The cough is gone but the affected lung it’s still congested and makes a noise when breathing. He is going for x-rays tomorrow. Any ideas what would happen next?
Really quick, he smokes cigars on a regular basis (for years) but hasn’t since the Dr told him not to.

If he’s going for xrays tomorrow why the question tonight?
I’d say he should be showing improvement with those treatments after 2 weeks, but, he is not. So….I guess you will know more tomorrow, even if there was a doctor in the fluther house they could not answer this without actually examining your friend further, which is about to happen.
Obviously you are wanting answers that simply don’t exist, yet.
Sorry, no can help.
He can be infected with something immune to those meds
or
the infection could have evolve.
@hibernate thanks. I think you are right, the infection has gotten worse. We’ll find out soon anyway.
Thank you.
Well don’t thank me yet. Thanks me if he gets better and if my advice helped.
When the Walking Pneumonia is gone,
The Boogie-Woogie Flu goes on.
The pneumonia might not be bacterial. Or, possibly your friend is healing, but the inflammation in his lungs is taking time to come down, and it is not mucous congestion.
Your friend could also have a compromised immune system, or just weakened.
Pneumonia can last 7–10 days or take months to get over. x-rays and the right meds are key.
It may be caused by virus, bacteria, fungi, parasites and even by “unknown causes”.
Have they given him a different anti-biotic if the one he is on is not working.
The wheezing from the fluid buildup is common even 2 weeks into treatment.
Is he on any other drugs or is he a generally healthy person.
Unfortunately, pneumonia tends to affect those who are already very sick to begin with, especially patients whose immune system has been knocked out by powerful drugs.
Having had pneumonia many times I can tell you, the healing process can take a good month even if your friend is taking good care of himself.
He may now have developed pleurisy. The doctor will and your friend will know more after the xrays are viewed.
Your friend needs a lot of rest, healthy food and to avoid any inflammation of his lungs.
Isn’t all pneumonia walking pneumonia until you can’t anymore? Why is it called that?
