What's a good herbal solution to reduce production of mucus?
I’ve got this acquaintance that asked me to help him find a solution to the fact that he frequently has to hack up the mucus clots that collect “behind the nose” as mentioned.
Quite a revolting question for some, I suppose. I assure you that the discussion was quite amusing.

Oh, by the way, he smokes and drinks. The first more than the second.
Quit smoking. Its effect is amazing.
A saline nasal rinse, such as Neilmed, and Mucinex.
Any hot liquids such as tea will help loosen congestion, but if he is also having allergy issues because of his habits and/or season, he might need to entertain something more than tea.
I would make a suggestion, but if he won’t quit smoking, there’s no point.
He should use a neti pot to rinse in the morning and in the evening.
But he really needs to quit smoking. Next time he complains or asks, tell him he needs to quit smoking. I hacked and coughed up phlegm all the time from morning to night when I smoked. It stopped about two days after I quit smoking.
Ginger.. boiled in water… >_< yuck.. Or other remedies similar to this, perhaps?
Tell him to try using a tongue scraper first thing upon waking up and before bed. I prefer the “U” shaped metal ones.
After quitting smoking, have him try a Neti pot or something similar. Infusions of mullein leaves help to cough up phlegm if it’s gotten lower. Otherwise, I like to eat spicy food to break things up.
No; I first thought this was due to illness.
Quit smoking, (that’s the source), then eat lots of watermellon, that’ll help repair the lungs. To rid the lungs of mucus/phelm take a tablespoon full of honey, mix as much ground up blackpepper as you can stand and take it a few times a day.
