What was the connection b/w the movie and Watergate? Or was it just merely a connection to pop-culture of the time?

i guess it was because the movie just came out, but it’s anyone’s guess, didn’t that guy ever reveal himself?
iwamoto: yes. it broke a few years ago. Dep. Dir. of FBI Mark Felt
Didn’t he distort his voice the old fashioned way, putting on a deep voice and covering the handset of the phone..? I think that was it.
And although the hotel Watergate had little to do with the underlying scandal, it got named after it due to the discovery made (the whole shredding stuff in the dark with flashlights thing)......I’m not an expert on the subject, but I did enjoy All the President’s Men and I will have to see the new movie about it.
There is a website: http://www.watergate.info/
got it!
Howard Simons, the managing editor of the Washington Post at the time, dubbed the secret informant “Deep Throat” as an allusion to the notorious pornographic movie of the same name. The name was also a play on the journalism term “deep background,” referring to information provided by a secret source that, by agreement, will not be reported directly. “Deep Throat” came to public attention when Woodward and Bernstein wrote All the President’s Men, a book also made into an Academy Award-winning movie. In the movie, Deep Throat was portrayed by Hal Holbrook.
Nice follow-up iwamoto :)
that’s what i’m here for ;)
i read that too. the “allusion to the notorious…” but i’m still not satisfied. Why was there an allusion made to that movie. Just for the sake of it? The “also a play on journalism term…” makes me think that that was just an after thought (the “play” on the term). So my question is, what was the nexus, if any, b/w the movie and the event?
I too often have questions about the verbal connections between things. I know what the things are, but I don’t grasp the metaphorical logic. Wish I knew a word for this kind of question. Then I could specify: “I know what Watergate was. I know what the movie was. This is a (new word) question.”
