Do you ever purchase photography for interior artwork?

Asked by Photosopher (1397points) June 25th, 2011

Sorry, I have so many questions about your interest in art photography. I’d love to hear your detailed perspectives and any other comments you’d care to share.

Main question, what styles of art photography interest you the most, i.e. landscapes, nature (flowers), journalism, vintage/historical, abstract, specialty (cows, rotting fruit, architectural…), color vs b&w?

Do you ever purchase framed photography artwork for interior display?

Are you a collector, frequenting established art galleries for their monthly openings, specifically to purchase high priced works from known artists? Are you on their mailing list?

Do you go to annual art fairs in your area to purchase unknown artist photography? If so, as an art fair buyer, would you prefer to purchase the print only (cheaper), or have it already framed and ready to hang?

Do you purchase photography from art photo web sites?

Does it make a difference to you if the photography is signed and numbered, signed only, signed on front or back, not signed at all?

Do you care if the work is limited edition original print/giclee, or if it’s a reproduction lithograph?

How deeply do you care if the artwork is collectable, archival, and sure to increase in value over the years as opposed to simply providing limited time interior display, to be trashed within your lifetime?

Thanks in advance to all who contribute!

Yes.
I have friends that are photographers and I have purchased some of their work at shows, galleries and fairs.I have traded some of my own for theirs and some photos were given to me as gifts.I don’t buy art online. Some photos I like unframed so I can pick which mat and frame I want to victimize it with.I want an original print. It never matters to me if it is collectable.
I don’t buy art to match my couch. ;))
I buy art because I love it or care about the person who created it.It is a beautiful reminder of some of my very creative friends or something that resonates within me.
I change my artwork often depending on my mood and when I die I hope it all goes to someone who loves it as much as I do.

Yes—We have several photo prints – Lava flow and eruptions ( six of those ).
Also a half dozen other prints of other subjects.

I’m very interested in what size (approx) your photography artwork is, fully framed upon the wall.

4 X 5 matted up to 8 X 9 in frame and several 11 X 14 framed not matted.

We have large (2’ x 3’) unframed photographs on our walls. My husband took them on various trips we took. They are both landscapes and portraits. They are excellent photos and have the extra value of memories for us. (No one we know is in any of them)
