Are we mortal for a good reason or is it just a shortcoming?
There is an “immortal jellyfish” specie out there:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turritopsis_nutricula
But is immortality really good? What are the good and bad points of immortality? Overall, is it good or bad?
One bad effect would be that on the population, as fewer people would die-
What would happen if we were given immortality in exchange of reproductive abilities? After all, individuals evolve mentally (and spiritually) in their lifetime- we could still have a wiser and reformed society without the natural evolution that occurs across generations.

Bad thing it that after a while there’s nothing to be done.
Not to mention that if not all are immortals then it would be a pain to see all your loved ones die then you start loving again then again they die and so on.
Ahh, the boredom. That is why.
Have,‘t you ever read No Exit?
We are not meant for immortality. Especially if everyone around us that we know dies.
In 1984, I flew to Memphis, joining my Mom for the first visit either of us had with my great-grandmother. She was a dear, sweet old woman. At a quiet time, she leaned towards me, and smiled, saying “You’re from Oakland, aren’t you?”
I said I was.
She said “They got a lot of niggers there! You gotta watch them niggers!”
I smiled at my great-grandmother, who was from a world 3 generations before me, and I thought to myself: “It’s good that old people die off”.
Because the planet we live on is going to be the same size untill it turns into a dead piece of rock.
If they ever succeed in producing the eternal life pill, I propose a ten year moratorium on procreation, or at least until the orphanages are a thing of the past.
I don’t want to be immortal. Especially if we keep aging – I’d be a lot more keen on living till 100 if those last 20 years weren’t spent senile and in diapers!
