How often have you seen charcoal colored clouds right next to sunny skies?

Very often. When thunderstorms are here that is often the case.

@marinelife Thanks.But that is just it, absolutley no hint of thunderstorm, and nothing in the forecast. It lasted ½ an hour or so.

All the time in south Florida. It can be raining on one side of I95 amd sunny on the other as you drive down the highway.

Just the other day, actually. It struck me as particularly stark. The sky to the right was extremely blue, with bright white clouds… and to the left it was nearly black. Beautiful.
