Does anyone else loathe sleep?

Asked by mowens (8403points) June 30th, 2011

I do. It isn’t that I cant sleep…. I can. I just hate it. It is a waste of time. I could spend that doing… pretty much anything else. It annoys me… that I have to sleep. Is this normal?

Plus it takes me the entire day to become alert and awake. Then… when I finally feel awake… society says I have to go to bed. Someone please explain this to me.

I love sleep, I love naps, and I love blacking out from too much booze. I can’t explain why you feel that way, but I have heard from a lot of people that they perceive sleep as a waste of time. So you’re not alone.

As far as society goes, I hear you. Although I am a nocturnal creature and have lived many of my years sleeping and eating whenever the fuck I damn well wanted, I must currently obey to the horrendous eight to five rule, and I truly dislike this. It’s depressing me, and if I have a soul, it’s killing it.

I hate going to sleep, but I love to sleep. I don’t think of it as a waste of time. I do hate that most of society looks down on people who are night owls.

If you feel like crap for a while when you wake up, quit caffeine. You are waking up in a state of withdrawal probably.

Yeah, I have never been a big fan. I always feel like I’m missing something.

Like @JLeslie says, I am extremely annoyed that most of society looks down on night owls. I have preferred to be awake at night since I was a baby. That’s the honest truth. Maybe I’m wired differently from other people, maybe it’s just a preference… but it really irritates me that I’m expected to be up at 7am in order to be a respectable adult.

I love sleeping when it’s time to sleep. I love everything about it. The pillows, the dreams, the one foot hanging off the bed, the anticipation of the first cup of coffee in the morning.

When I’m awake I can’t sit still, but I need my rest at night to be active during the day.

I gotta get my power naps or I’m going to be a pain in the butt.

I could, thank gawd, work evenings an nights, tough there had to be some days in there. I find 10pm to 2 am to be such good hours. The air is soft and smells wonderful (summer), fires are finer, it’s full of night sounds and no one expects you to be weeding the garden. I don’t understand wanting to be sleeping at this time. But I love sleeping until 10 or 11 in the am and do not feel any loss at missing that clear morning light or any of that stuff. Sometimes I’d like to crank my lawn mower up at midnight and see how you like it.

What I loathe is sleeping without a warm body beside me.

jdogg's avatar

It’s the single most creative part of the day! You may hate it but your body and mind love it. I promise you, without sleep, you would be less than half productive.

Sleep forever, Satan’s children had whispered…such a mighty nightmare! I should have gone to church more often.

I do not hate it because I like to sleep .. the relaxing part that is.

If I could I’d prolly sleep all day.

@Hibernate You and me both, vampire bro. Fuck, what I wouldn’t do for a coffin filled with pillows to shield me from this bullshit yall call the Sun.

I love sleep, it’s the waking up to farts belches & neanderthal grunts that occur when you do a big stretch that I don’t like…...& that’s just the wife!

I am not average when it comes to sleep. I get anywhere from zero to five hours of sleep per day. I wake up a lot and have nightmares very often. I understand the feeling of sleep being a waste of time. I’ve had that feeling during several periods in my life. I’ve pretty much accepted that it’s a necessary and important ingredient for one’s wellbeing.

I love the late night – I tend to be most productive and awake between the hours of 10pm and 4am. However, I love going to sleep when I’m dead tired (mentally and physically).

I love sleep. It doesn’t feel at all like time wasted.

I love sleep. However, my love is often unrequited, which just makes me love sleep all the more. Ah, fickle sleep, how can I get you to commit to me?

mowens's avatar

@JLeslie I quit caffeine 10 years ago. I miss it every morning. :(

@jdogg I have been sleep deprived my entire life. I cant imagine what productive would feel like.

@PluckyDog Im with you on everything but nightmares. I rarely remember my dreams. Usually, I just pass out when im tired…. and I have really loud alarms that would wake anyone up.

JLeslie's avatar

@mowens Yeah, I had quit for over 12 years, just recently started cheating again. Coca-cola is still so yummy. I do feel much better overall not drinking caffeine, but I love the caffiene for the few hours. It sucks.

I love sleeping. I love dreaming. They are like adventures. I love being awake too.

Loathing sleep is like loathing learning.

We can’t learn and master complex matters without proper sleep.

Sleep is like investing in a smarter future. It’s the exact opposite of a waste of time. The ROI is huge.
