What lies have you told on an online dating profile you believe may have been effective?
Any input would be appreciated.
If you have not set up a profile or are married, please volunteer anything you feel may be germane.

I met my wife though eHarmony. I may have embellished a bit in how compassionate I am.
I didn’t lie in my profile and I think that’s why I didn’t get very many hits. I was completely honest about my height & weight and said that I was average looking. (Most people say they are above or slightly above average even when they’re not.) I also didn’t lie about my profession or age. Luckily, I met my husband anyway.
If you feel compelled to lie on your profile, I would only choose things that someone couldn’t check or wouldn’t learn about you after 3 or 4 dates. And I haven’t a clue what that might be!
@tedibear I don’t plan on lying. I am just curious if anybody did and it worked out for them.
Talk yourself up and highlight, even slightly exaggerate, your positive attributes. Obviously don’t lie about something you wouldn’t have a chance of backing up, but at least sell yourself so you can get a chance to shine in person.
I have never lied about anything, but..I have told others that if they are unsavory Jacks I’ll chop down their beanstalks. lol I don;t do online dating these days, because I don’t want a relationship.
If I was a guy looking to attract women, I would say I had a better job, more aspirations toward family, was more attractive, had a bigger house…
My dad met his perfect companion on a dating site. Technically she lied by leaving out the fact that she plays with dolls… take the good with the bad (or weird) I guess
No lies were told in my online dating profile. I didn’t upload a photo though. One guy sent an initial message that said I must be fat because there wasn’t an image in the profile. After that, I never uploaded one, as it seemed like an effective filter for the shallow members.
@rOs Priceless response.
Just put a sexy picture(believe me, many people are horny enough to appreciate it). Lying about your age and personality is common in dating sites. I naturally won’t trust someone from dating sites without any face to face or webcam features, people aren’t always who they are in internet.
There is lying and there is embellishing. I haven’t used an online dating site but if I did, and someone lied, I would be unimpressed. I think it’s really very much like going for a job. You shouldn’t lie but if you enhance some of your better qualities… well that’s okay.
You seem like a pretty intelligent, intuitive man to me, perhaps ask people who know you and especially women, what they think are your most appealing traits (women may see different traits to you as being valuable) and boost those things. Good luck!
I asked this question because I assume somebody lied, got caught, and had a funny story!
Now I feel bad everyone wants to help me out. Well, glad you do. It’s very nice thank you.
Lol. Lying is never good. So you don’t actually need our help bagging a hot lady on an online site then… sighs… see the proof is in the posting.
Have to go shopping now. My husband is calling me Elizabeth… I’m in the shite!
I’ve never been to an online dating site. I have been playing online on sites similar to this one for a couple of years. I never lied about anything. Good thing since I have very close friends now who I met online, including my fella.
I only put basic information but must admit age and dob may not be that accurate. But single status must be honest as you don’t want to do this kind of cheating. But I believe online dating is the beginning of everything, you need to take time to get to know the person in real life. Some people look different from the pic, some look better than the pic some look less. So the best way is to give basic information and meet the person in real life to have the real interaction.
