Vitamix blender - is it worth ten times the price?

A friend wants to buy a Vitamix blender. I am by nature cheap, he likes to buy “the best”, so we are both biased.
They cost nearly $400 US. the question, that price is no problem for him, but I question if it is really better than my $40 blender.
