Why do I feel like I'm still wearing my hat?

We are now required to wear a hat for work. Which I hate because it’s too big. And wearing it backwards bugs my ears. But that’s not the question at hand. I took it off at 3:15PM. It’s now 6:26PM and I can still feel the area where it touched my head. It isn’t adjustable and there’s no elastic involved. It’s just a ball cap.
I have this happen whenever I wear hats, but not with other clothing. (Oh! Except my prom dress in 1982. There was elastic involved there.) It’s not a problem and should go away when I shower tonight. I’m wondering what this phenomenon is!

Buy yourself a “hat size adjuster” or headband to wear at work.
It sounds like your hat may be too tight/snug.
Are you normally not a hat person? I’m not. When I had to wear a hat for work, this would happen to me too. Maybe it’s because it’s not something you’re used to.
Why when I get off my recumbent bike do I feel like I’m still biking? Whatever the answer to this question is…it’s the same for hats. I get the same feeling @tedibear, seriously
@YARNLADY – I will look for a hat size adjuster, thank you. When you say a headband to wear, I assume you mean under the hat? Because that might do the trick.
@Plucky – No, the hat is too big. And I get this with all hats, not just mis-sized ones.
@Seelix – Nope, I’m not a hat person. I do hope that I get used to it and get rid of this feeling. Washing my hair seems to have gotten rid of most of it, but I can still feel it near my ears.
@SpatzieLover – Once I find out, I promise to tell you!
Then I agree with the cause being that you are not used to hats. It’s like getting a new pair of earphones, or wearing them for the first time, it can be irritating and painful. I think you will eventually get used to the feeling – since it is now require at your place of work. :)
I get that, too. In fact, whenever I wear things that are uncomfortable I feel like that.
When I stop carrying my purse after a long day of carrying it, I feel this “Phantom Purse” thing.
All of these have happened to me too. The hat thing, the phantom purse….haha
It’s cellular memory. The nerves have to go hat-less and purse-less for awhile to recover.
The good news is, when I get home and rip off my bra, there is no phantom bra feeling, just freedom. lol
