Have you read--not just heard of but read--any books by Patrick Lencioni? If so, what's your opinion?

Asked by Jeruba (56062points) July 6th, 2011

Patrick Lencioni’s books include the best-seller The Five Dysfunctions of a Team. Told as a fable of business life, it exposes counterproductive behaviors in the workplace and explains what must happen for a group to work effectively as a team.

If you’ve read any of his books and have opinions about them, I’m interested. Please share.

I’m especially interested in knowing if you our your managers at work have ever been assigned a book of his to read and whether you think it made any difference.

Yes, the leadership team (principals, coaches, grade level lead teachers) in my school district was assigned The Five Dysfunctions of a Team several years ago. In my opinion it was not a good match for a school district, which is distinctly different from a typical business in many ways. Reading the book generated a few interesting discussions, but most of the time we were trying to stretch it to fit our situations.

That said, it was written in an engaging way and was a quick read. If it had fit our structural model better, it probably would have been fairly helpful.
