How do I set up credit card or Pay Pal payments for an online business?

Asked by LostInParadise (32185points) July 7th, 2011

I have been toying with the idea of setting up an online tutoring business. I just came across an online whiteboard that I think will make this fairly easy. I would of course set up a Web page for the business. I am thinking of keeping it pretty simple. Anyone interested would send me an email. I want to know what I would have to do to automate payments. Is that difficult to set up? Are there any general packages for setting up a business that does things like keep track of customers, payments and appointments?

@LostInParadise I have an eBay biz, so getting Paypal payments is easy for me. However, I also have an Auctiva account, and they add the Paypal button to your web page for you.

I think that if you go directly to the Paypal site you can have this question answered fairly quickly or you can read several of these tip sites by searching the Net for “how to add Paypal to my website”. YouTube has a few good video tutorials as well.

I’ll gladly assist further if I can.

For most Web sites, it’s a good idea to have a full-blown Merchant Account. Thei is the account businesses open that lets them accept credit cards. If it’s a brigk-and-mortat store, their Merchant Bank provides them the machine/s they use to swipe in card info, and the ability to capture those funds then transfer them to their business bank account. You can use Paypal Pro to approximate this if you want to start small. PM me and I can give you the contact infor for my Paypal rep. You need a rep to set up a Pro account. But if you;‘re serious about getting a good web business going, it’s best to have both a Merchant Account and a Paypal account so users can use whichever suits them better.

You are goingn to need to know what cart/checkout system you are going to use before getting a Merchant Account. There are several merchant gateways, and some platforms work only with Merchant Accounts able to use their preferred gateway. I’m a Yahoo! Store developer, And Yahoo! MNerchant Solutions Stores work with any merchant account compatible with the First Data Nashville gateway.
