On a PlayStation 3 hooked up to a cathodic television, is there any way to be able to read text better?
I have a flat screen cathodic TV, and trying to read text from Playstation 3 games is horrendous. My TV’s settings don’t touch screen settings or anything, I can just play with the colours. I’ve been messing around in the settings for the PS3 and was told there was an option for cathodic TV’s, but I think it’s only to make it so the screen doesn’t edge out of your field of sight…I can’t do anything about text.
Is there anything at all I can do, some way to make it easier to read?
(besides getting a modern rectangular television, I’m poor)

No, tube TV’s arent designed for modern graphics. Buy a better TV, or if you have white walls, buy a cheap projector and hook that up.
Will any lcd TV work fine? I don’t need some fancy thing, I just want to see text properly lol.
If you manage to get the right cable to hook your ps3 up to an lcd computer monitor, that would work and provide readability. Tube Tvs CANNOT improve text readability at all.
@Symbeline – Get whatever’s on sale at Best Buy or Future Shop or whatever. We have a cheap store-brand type LCD TV and it’s awesome.
Is it possible at all to get one for in between 200 to 300?
I’m not too up on prices, but tigerdirect.ca is a good place to check now and then for sales. They have storefronts, too, but I’m not sure exactly where. If you just get an LCD monitor (if you’re not too concerned about how huge it is), you might save a few bucks. Check here for an idea of what they have.
We call them CRTs (cathode ray tubes). It’s possible there’s are adjustments for focus & beam convergence. Look for small knobs or screwdriver adjustments attached to the circuit board. Try lowering the brightness & contrast to improve focus. Like other people said, rendering legible text requires better resolution & video bandwidth than for standard tv pictures.
I’m not sure how PS3s work but you can somewhat change resolution settings on a Xbox 360.
Have you tried fiddling with the display options in the settings?
@Syger Yeah, but there isn’t much there you can do. :/
@Symbeline Darn. :( Changing the display settings for my 360 fixed a blurriness issue that I had, hoped that it’d be that easy for you too.
No such luck. I’ve messed with all the settings, only managed to fix up the analiasing or wtv you call that. Which does help a bit, but not enough. New TV it is. XD
