Should I use my cancelled ticket to fly somewhere?

Asked by chelle21689 (7907points) July 13th, 2011

I bought a $170 ticket to go to Los Angeles a few months ago but I cancelled it. There was no cancellation fee but if I use this cancelled ticket to go somewhere else there is a possible $180 re-booking fee!! I’m trying to go to Miami and round trip flights are looking no more than $250.

You think it’s worth to go on a trip to use my cancelled ticket even if it means paying the fee of up to $180? =( I have a year to use it…

UP to $180 it may be less

Would there be a re-booking fee if you used it for another flight to LA? If so, it might be worth waiting.

Why not call the airline and find out what kind of re-booking fee you are looking t to go to Miami?

Hmm…I don’t understand why a booking fee would be that much. There would still be a booking fee to LA.

Recently I have made it a habit, when talking to customer service people, to ask something like, “What would you do in this situation?” or “Is there a cost-effective way to use this cancelled ticket?”

It works surprisingly well. I think people are inclined to make an effort if you ask for help.

Go. Anytime you have the chance to go on an adventure, (trips are adventures), you should go. Life is short and when you are older, you will enjoy memories. You will also have some stories to tell.
