Can the President arrest someone?

Asked by serenityNOW (3643points) July 17th, 2011

I’m just wondering… I mean, he’s the Commander-in-Chief, but does he have the right to stop someone who’s breaking the law. I would assume he’d have his attaché of Secret Service with him, but say, if he went for a midnight jog without his security and saw me peeing in public… just how far do his right’s go…?

He is Commander in Chief of the Armed forces, but he is not a deputized law enforcement officer. He can make a citizen’s arrest.

I say he doesn’t have the authority to someone.

If the President can push terrorists out the back of Air Force One and fly a fighter plane into battle against alien invaders, he can do ANYTHING.

I believe that anyone can make a citizens arrest. But the Pres can give the Get out of Jail card to whomever he choses. The common man can’t do that.

Anybody can make a citizen;s arrest. So yes, the president could do so in the same manner the rest of us can use.

The Commander and Chief could not romp through Death Valley with out a soul in sight with out the Secret Service right there…....

He can only make a citizens arrest and turn the arrested person over to either the U.S. Marshal or the local police, depending on the crime violated.
