I heard about something where you can contact anyone in the world, literally, some sort of inter-whada or something. Seems neato but I think all the computers might join together and try to kill us. As for now I’m off the to shop to get a chocolate malt and then head off to the roller rink
It’s all about the cloud right now. Think Iron Age mainframe punted ferociously into the future, where the mainframe is a server farm and the terminals are all PCs.
There’s talk of a new system for IP addresses, since we’re due to run out soon.
And a little while back, the bleeding edge had caught on a sort of super internet, that would be faster, better, stronger, and highly fiber-optic; word was that the ‘tubes would be big enough to dump the complete works of the Rolling Stones on a machine on the other side of the world in a matter of seconds.
Hardware specs are improving at an alarmingly steady rate. There is a theoretical upper limit to how much data we can store on itty bitty chips, but we’re not there yet. Not really news, but there ya have it.
How theoretical/practical?
Social networking and smartphone apps are where all the buzz is right now. Also, faster processing, AI and cloud computing.
