What's the best cover song that you've heard lately?
Tonight I just heard a snatch of song on So You Think You Can Dance, and I loved it. I went to YouTube and looked it up. It is fantastic.
A complete reworking of the song. It was Angus and Julia Stone’s cover of “You’re the One that I Want,” Olivia Newton John’s song from Grease.
So great! What recent very excellent cover have you heard?

This cover of Creep is beautiful and haunting.
Can I just say that after years of being a devoted Angus and Julia fan, I am thrilled that they are beginning to get some recognition here?
I can’t say that I’ve heard any cover songs recently. My favorite cover to date is Tool’s version of No Quarter.
I don’t even like The Beatles, but I love the cover of “Let It Be” from “Across the Universe”. Also John Mayer’s cover of “Free Fallin”
I know it’s shameless, Bit I think my son did a really good job with Man in the Mirror
Beck’s cover of the Korgis “Everybody’s Got To Learn Sometime.”
Bruce Springsteen’s cover of Suicide’s “Dream Baby Dream.”
Erasure’s cover of ABBA’s “S.O.S.”
Heaven 17/BEF’s cover of the Buzzcocks “Are Everything.”
Stephin Merritt’s cover of Franz Ferdinand’s “Dream Again.”
marinelife Would you be really jealous if I told you that I heard Angus and Julia do that song live at The Bell House in Brooklyn this year? It was great, she sang it so slow and sexy and after years of hearing Olivia Newton John and John Travolta do it for Grease, I was amazed and in love! I posted the youtube video on my facebook page. Unfortunately not too many people checked it out. They don’t know what they were missing! I am wracking my brain for another cover as good, I am sure I can come up with more but for now what comes to mind is Diana Krall’s cover of I’ve Got You Under My Skin. I don’t like her interpretation of everything, but she does this song well, very sexy… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJwNIDCAsfc
@Earthgirl I am jealous.
I can think of several covers I like as well. Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley (almost anything would be better than Leonard Cohen who is a great poet, but can’t sing), Mad World by Adam Lambert (this version was originally done by Gary Jules for the movie Donnie Darko), and Reign O’er Me by Bette LaVette (originally done by The Who).
I like James Marsters’ cover of Chocolate Jesus by Tom Waits. I’d like to hear a better quality version of it, but this will do for now.
I could be slightly biased by my undying love for both James and Tom though
marinelife That cover of Reign O’er Me by Bettye Lavette was really great! Thanks for the link.
