What do you think of the Flyer's moves over the off season?
Sports questions are so rare in here. I just want to hear some people’s thoughts and maybe a discussion on the major trades that Philadelphia made over the last few weeks. Also, really any major team trade can be discussed!

I ask a fair amount of sport based questions, seems a lot of anti sport folk populate this place.
I’m not overly familiar with US sports, just thought i’d have my say as a sports fan.
@ucme I know this is off topic, but I have no more questions left for today! I’m guessing you’re a Brit and you enjoy soccer? Fave BPL team?
@Schroedes13 English & I enjoy football, calling it soccer still makes me cringe.
Unfortunately my team aren’t in the premier league, used to be but fell on hard times.
We’re on the way back up though, hopefully next season.
My team.
Sorry, @ucme! Football it is.
Well, I’m glad that you’re still with your team even when they’re relegated. Being a North American with no British city allegiance at all, I really enjoy Tottenham. I think Bale is amazing. However, my favourite football team of all time has to be the team of my peoples: Bayern Munich!
@Schroedes13 Yeah Bale is a great player, pity he’s Welsh could do with his pace for England.
Bayern Munchen eh? Another team catching up on past successes.
Ya! I was utterly disappointed with their second leg against Barcelona! Horrid!
Having said that, no one’s going to beat Barca, at least anytime soon.
Nope…...it’s a sad Champions League for the next few years!
Unless some resourceful chap slips a bomb into Messi’s boxers ;¬}
LOL @ resourceful!
He is just too good! My favourite goal of his was against Arsenal. He took a perfect through ball, the keeper challenged, he chipped it to himself, and hammered the volley home! So amazing! My housemate is a massive Arsenal fan and even he was speechless.
He reminds me of Maradona at his peak, although he’s yet to perform well at a world cup.
Didn’t score at all in last year’s tournament.
Bet he secretly wishes he could play for Spain, not that they need him.
If Messi played for Spain, I wouldn’t even watch the quarters or semis, just the group stage where some teams get hammered!
Yeah, no other teams need turn up.
Hey we turned your question into a sports chat, makes a nice change.
Ya I know. As much as I love the intellectual side of fluther, sometimes I do miss a good sports talk. Especially living in China for the summer, not many people here make a good sports buddy!
I certainly enjoyed it, cheers for that.
Anytime. Also did your team move up this off season? I didn’t keep tabs on the relegations! I’m guessing all the W teams went down?
No they were relegated a few years back now, actually went down two divisions!!
We’re in the second tier for this up coming season, hopefully ending in promotion to the premier league.
NICE! Good luck with that!
@ucme Barcelona is all about Lionel Messi. If he’s gonna get some sort of an injury or he’s gonna be transfered then Barca will suck.
I like Arsenal because of how Wenger organizes things there and he’s always successful with a young team.
@Hibernate It’s clear he’s their best player, but if he were to leave (not going to happen) they have other players to fall back on. Iniesta, Xavi & Villa would probably walk into any team.
Villa and Xavi aren’t that smart and the vision to create scoring opportunities are rare for them.
Iniesta is good at the center but all the pressure putted on his shoulders will make him do a lot of mistakes.
If they trade Messi they have to bring a new player to the team to take care of that.
@Schroedes13 Haha, why though? Xavi has been encouraging Fabregas to come back to his beloved Barca. A fact not lost on Arsenal’s manager Wenger, he’s furious with Xavi’s “meddling.”
HE’S A BRUTAL DIVER! Wow. That would be crazy if Fabregas left the Gunners for Barca!
You never know what can happen.
Arsenal are holding out for £40million, Guardiola says Fabregas needs to “come home.”
Fabregas began his career at Barcelona academy, it’s more or less a done deal as far as i’m aware.
Oh by the way, the Flyers suck.
@Adirondackwannabe – Just one more reason to like you! I grew up a Sabres fan and can’t stand the Flyers. Yup, still holding that 1970’s grudge…
Another Sabres fan/Flyers hater here.
To be fair though, the Flyers moves have been interesting. They have dumped off some depth to stay under the cap, but managed to finally get a goalie who is the definite starter. Only time will tell if they made good moves or not though. If they get the most out of the prospects they got then the moves were good, but if they can’t survive as a one line team, then it wasn’t worth all the shuffling.
I personally hope the whole thing blows up in their face.
@amujinx The thing is though, I don’t consider Nabby a good goalie anymore. And also, what’s with the lengthy contract? After his contract is up, they’re gonna drop him off at the retirement home!
@Schroedes13 Just having stability in the net might be enough for the team. As for the length, I can only guess that they are showing that come hell or high water, he is and will be the locked in starter.
Or maybe they just think they are the Islanders with DiPietro.
Edit: Wait a sec… Nabby? Surely you mean Bryzgalov.
Sorry…..my bad! It is Bryzzy. Forgive my blunder. I confuse them a lot actually and I don’t know why. Their names aren’t even close to each other!
