Have you ever dressed in steampunk costume?
Can you describe your costumes? Any links to pictures?

No. I’m freaking 25 years old lol.
Yes! It’s quite fun.
I have a tightly fitted red leather corset with brown inlay and a flowy white shirt to go under it. I also have a layered white and brown skirt to go with it. Along with that, I have some steampunk goggles that are absolutely adorable.
Punk? Yes.
Steampunk? No.
I’ve dismantled an eMac computer and can’t wait to dress me up for halloween. The body makes a perfect darth vader style cone head and lots of shiny metal parts inside. Yes, steampunk rules!
@KatetheGreat I have a tightly fitted red leather corset with brown inlay and a flowy white shirt to go under it.
Do you have my email address?
@katethegreat I’m wearing a white flowy shirt under a black corset for a party
oh…well I’ll just go to goodwill for some gadgety stuff I guess
Yes, I have and I love it. As a matter of fact I’m planning a steampunk themed wedding. But check out this site romanticthreads.com. That’s my favorite site to get my dresses, and everything can be custom made.
@shego A steampunk themed wedding? Holy shit, that’s a good idea. I’d love to do something like that.
@shego I love the red dress on that homepage. It’d be so cute with a mini top hat.
Yep, @KatetheGreat and my fiance doesn’t care. It takes a lot of planning. But I already have the order in for my dress.
@shego You have no idea how incredibly jealous I am of you.
@KatetheGreat don’t be planning a wedding is expensive and stressful

Oh, and I once made this
My Halloween costume is almost always something vaguely steampunk. I prefer more subtle steampunk. I’ve been into the genre since the 90’s and it upsets me how gaudy it has gotten. Subtlety is key, for me.
It’s funny, not too long ago you could get the real thing, antique leather riding goggles or aviator goggles on ebay for a song. Since steamounk has become so much more mainstream the goggles you find are more cyber llooking and not so cool as the Victorian ones I used to see. Now the costume companies are making them and they aren’t too expensive. Here is a link for some cool ones. http://www.museumreplicas.com/s-83-goggles-eyewear.aspx
No, but largely because I can’t find a decent set of goggles that will accept prescription lenses. I don’t feel like wearing two sets of eyewear, and contacts are not an option.
@Blackberry I’m 37, and Robert Brown (lead of Abney Park) is 41. Your point?
Not yet but I’ve been diligently working on getting an decent outfit together.
Gotta admit that I’ve found many items classified as “steampunk” that are just items of clothing with gears glued/painted on them. However, I’ve found some really good stuff at military surplus stores, thrift shops and Etsy.com (for those unique one of a kind items)—
However, if you are looking for fancy goggles, I liked some of the designs at this place. This online shop was also recommended to me as well.
@jerv Lol. I’ll reconsider, then. And I misread the question, and thought she was asking if we wear this normally lol.
@gememers folder tabs, old washers, an old web belt, old wire, some bolts, and a printout of a typewriter question mark.
