Do you have to restrain yourself from inserting personal quips into business emails?

A typical business email for me (including the quip which I had to stop myself from inserting) would be,

Good afternoon Ms. So & So,

My name is Dutchess Fluther and I’m a teacher with XYZ diploma completion program. One of your former students, Dolly Dropout, has enrolled with us. This is to request a copy of her transcript. Please find the signed transcript request attached.

I appreciate your time.
