Is there any scientific truth to Sanpaku?

Asked by Sponge (541points) July 22nd, 2011

I learned about it today, did some ‘Googling’, and found out I have what the Chinese call ‘Yin Sanpaku’. This is when the bottom part of the white part of the eye, known as the sclera, is visible. I read about the myths, but are there any scientific truths to them? Or are people just born with different iris sizes?

The part where you can see sclera between the iris and lower lid is true enough. As for the rest, it seems a bit too vague and uncontrolled.

Scientific truth as in has it been medically (Western med.) and biologically proven that those with yin sanpaku are at risk of danger, imbalanced and not healthy no. But would I totally discount it? Not sure. LIke with some other Ayurvedic medicine or Eastern medicine that have been proven by science to be accurate, there might later be found that there’s some truth to it.
