What are your thoughts on the movie "Point Break?"?
I had a discussion with someone recently about the 1991 movie “Point Break,” with Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze. I’ve happened to see it on TV 3 times in the past 2 months and we disagreed on whether this movie had a deeper meaning and/or a spiritual meaning.
Just wondering what the Fluther community thinks. It’s an old movie, but if you remember anything about this movie, what did/do you think- does it have a deeper meaning, and if so, what do you think it is?

It’s a great movie, it’s nothing like say Heat or a real proper bank robber movie, but for a medium size budget 90’s movie, it’s good.
I can only remember one flaw in it, it’s just not realistic to throw a pitbull at someone in a chase.
It’s an enjoyable little romp, but no deep meaningful undertones.
Never pick a fight near a rotary mower though, good safety tip.
I only see that movie for what it was and nothing else. Good guy vs. bad guy. With movies like these, I see criminal ideas passed on from the writer, to the screen and to the public. It gives good people bad ideas on how to rob banks and temporarily get away with it.
I know it’s just a movie, but an implanted thought can become reality.
The movie was excellent, except for the dog scene.
The deeper meaning is that Keanu Reeves is a horrible actor “I am an FBI agent.”, but one fine piece of eye candy. At least he used to be.
By deeper and spiritual meaning you mean Swayze’s search for the ultimate wave ride in life? Seen the movie so many years ago and could recall some things notable at least to me…
1. Opening shot where Keanu Reeves was sitting on the car with a shotgun and it was raining.
2. That extensive first person pov chase scene.
3. Those Ronald Reagan holdup masks.
4. Keanu Reeves saying no he doesn’t eat chicken fat or chicken skin?
5. Nightime parachuting?
Lastly, I noted Kathryn Bigelow’s direction as impressive. It reminded me of Tony Scott’s directing style. I think she was with James Cameron at that time. But sorry for digressing from the question.
Johnny Utah (Keanu Reeves) was a former Ohio State QB. The deeper meaning is Go Bucks
I thought it sucked. Sorry.
