Anyone go all iPad and lose the computer?
Just curious on who has or who has thought of going iPad only without having desktop/laptop too.

I’ve certainly thought about it (especially since my current laptop has bitten the dust), but it’s just not viable for me. The lack of Flash is a real deal breaker – I watch too many web videos and play too many silly games to do away with Flash. The lack of true support for Microsoft Office is also a problem.
I had one. It was my bed/couch/hospital internet thing. I sold it right before the iPad 2 came out for 400 bucks. My plan was to sell the used and only pay 100 for the upgrade. I just stuck with the iPod Touch instead.
I use stuff like Cinema4D and Photoshop so it can’t replace my tower.
Edit: But it did work to kill my sisters computer. Web and e-mail is all she uses.
I love my iPad but only as a “bed, couch, travel” supplement. I do a lot of typing for course prep and the touchpad is too clunky for extensive typing. Even when I have just been posting on it, I am glad to return to my desktop.
Until iPad supports Adobe and Microsoft apps (which might never happen), I can’t use it in place of my computer. I do find it a great “sit out on the back porch” tool, though—much easier than toting the laptop.
To overcome the keyboard limitations, I did get one of the covers that has a more tactile keyboard, but the damn thing is so hard to put on/off, I abandoned it.

Same here but I use my MacBook Pro for travel as I need more features than the iPad has.
@Paul :: The iPad is a lot easier to understand once you realize that most people only use Facebook and email while looking at sites that people on Facebook posted.
I do more so I need a real computer. But the iPad does have a place.
Well, it does depend on what I want to do when I am traveling. If I am going to do any extensive word processing, we have a Netbook too but my spouse will usually use that while I am on the iPad.
Great question I’m going to follow because I want to buy one for my mother who basically just checks her email, looks at facebook and browses ebay.
Thought about it, but I can’t do any work on it. Try editing a spreadsheet with that thing. Yikes.
I’d do it if I didnt have to use the computer for work things.
I haven’t ditched the laptop yet because I find it easier to create documents on a laptop, but I use the ipad and appletv for any media I watch since I ditched cable a few years ago.
As far as flash and apple go, you guys should check out the app Skyfire. its a web browser that plays flash. It doesn’t work on every website yet, but the developer had been very good about updating compatible websites.
No.. I wouldn’t really consider it because a laptop really comes in handy sometimes. Mine has like a 17” wide screen, which is awesome for watching video and playing games, plus there is no contest between the keyboard and typing on an iPad. It takes me roughly 5 times longer, then there’s stupid autocorrect to muck things up (and also add in unintentional, random humor).
The iPad is, however, extremely useful, especially since my laptop battery died years ago and I have never replaced it. Which means that now, with the iPad, I have the freedom to Fluther or surf the web from anywhere.. bed, bathroom, outside, yadda yadda. :)
There are apps that allow you to connect to another computer, which in theory I would think you can view flash sites. Then I guess the logical question would be if you have a desktop and a laptop, has the iPad replaced your laptop. Thanks for the responses.
