What I do about a co workers constant singing along with songs on radio (actually off station from the internet). It’s not bad but it is starting to get on my nerves. Help with tactful approaches to this.

Turn off the radio?
Turn on a white noise machine if you can’t turn off the radio.

Politely say, “While I’m glad you’re enjoy yourself at work, I am distracted by your singing”

I have a co-worker who has a strong tendency to break into song whenever words people use in conversation remind him of a song lyric. This meant that several times a day he’d bust out with show tunes or other songs—right there in the office. (Unaccompanied). While his voice wasn’t terrible or anything..it did get a bit…disruptive in our otherwise quiet office environment filled with software geeks.

The only thing we could do was groan and tease him (gently) to finally break him of this habit.

It turns out this is how his family interacts (they’re like a scene out of ‘The Sound of Music’ at home apparently – each kid plays at least one instrument, too) ..so he didn’t realize it could be annoying in an office environment until we pointed it out.

If you can, jokingly and gently, point out to your coworker not everyone likes singing in the office.. then perhaps you can say something to your co-worker to discourage the singing…

Oooh, tactful? I’m out. I always go with “Hey, who sings this song?... Yeah, you should let them sing it”.

Are you in a position to buy some headphones and turn up your iPod?

Try a lighthearted approach.
Say with a smile: “Well, I can see why you didn’t make it through the qualifying rounds of America’s Got Talent… ”, or anything that you can come up with yourself.

This would drive me nuts, too.
Maybe a beautifully wrapped and anonymous set of earbuds left on his desk, with a note that says “Please”.

Throw a pie in their face.

Join them :P
On a serious note though, just approach them and kindly let them in on your thoughts.

I am with @Aethelflaed either be direct OR and this would be my preference put some headphones on so you can’t hear them.

Simple, purchase ear plugs and say, “yeah”.. “really?” and “I see” ever so often then if they ask, “Are you listening to me?” tell them you can’t hear over that incessive (and somewhat irritating) singing on the radio.
