Do you really think God(in any form you may believe "Him" to be in)helps those who help themselves?

Do you think we are all alone from the moment we step into our life or does the Supreme Being help out when we want/need/try to be helped?

A little of both I think, but he does his best work when we realize we need him. My closest moments to him have been when I cried out, “I just can’t do this! if you want it to happen, YOU have to do it!!”
It is at those times, that I realize that he can and he will, and he gets the credit for it all. Not me.
I don’t think we’re ever alone. I believe we were all sent with a Guardian Angel to protect our soul.
Well, I don’t quite believe in God, but I do believe that if there is a higher power, he/she/it would probably help those who had pride and integrity, and worked to be good people and have good lives. He/she/it would not be inclined to help the people who beg for help before trying to solve the problem themselves.
I believe every soul has a guardian angel. If they choose to ignore it that is their choice.
@ZEPHYRA ; Would you stop loving your child, even if they disowned you?
@Judi Never! Not till my dying day and even beyond that!
Some people believe it, and some don’t. I don’t. Yes, I think we’re here alone (species on another planet is a different discussion).
I think a person helps themselves when they help themselves. I also think that when people have faith in a thing larger than themselves, they are able to find strength in themselves they they didn’t initially feel they had. It’s like when I tell my son, ‘The good news is, It’s up to YOU! The bad news is, It’s up to YOU!’.
I’m an atheist, but I think this saying is a very good one, because it encourages people to take action in their lives. If there is a God, I believe He would want us to to not sit around waiting for a miracle. When I observe someone doing their best, all the right things, and still having a tough time, it makes me want to give them a hand to get through, or acheive what their final goal is, and if I can help I want to. I think it is kind of the same thing. When we watch someone doing nothing to help themselves, we first encourage them to start taking some steps, any steps towards changing their situation.
I realised there was no god when I helped myself to the lead off a church roof, the vicar called the police :-/ still I got a good price for the lead……. It was a longgggggg time ago… I was brought up to ask for permission before I proceeded in doing anything as a kid, never heard an answer from any god so I just took it as a yes & helped myself…….. Lol……….
I wish he would help the children in Africa. I don’t think they can help themselves. Seems the supreme being isn’t so supreme.
No, I don’t think there is any divine force of any kind helping anyone.
Yes and I believe this God would help those who can be self suffcient in hpes that these same people would in turn help those that can’t….pay it forward kinda thing!
I don’t quite believe in God but through our actions we can make it appear that He does exist.
@flutherother Indeed, like an emergency landing in the Hudson River lol.
Those who try to help themselves just need someone to guide them sometimes. But most times we need guidance and who can be better at this then the One who created EVERYTHING.
I don’t believe in a god really, but I think the saying that ‘God helps those who help themselves’ is a sort of weak saying. Of course it’s easy to say that something you can’t see is helping you when you’re doing the work yourself; who can tell at that point? The work is done and the credit is distributed, half to you and half to something you’re assuming made you able to do it. Quite like saying ‘I’ll be there in spirit’ to a friend who has to push their car out of the road by themselves – load of help that does! Not to say that the existence of god should be based on a saying, just that the saying seems silly to me.
