What is the longest phone call you have ever had?

Asked by Bellatrix (21317points) July 30th, 2011

Inspired by another jellies earlier question about how long phone calls should last. So, what is the longest phone call you have ever had and who was it to (not their name but relationship)?

Twelve hours with a girl I had recently fallen for.

@FutureMemory seems like there is a 12 hour theme. I noticed @symbeline mentioned a 12 hour call too.

I don’t know but I had a friend that I talked with on the phone so often that when I saw her in person,I had my hand up to my ear as if I were talking to her on the phone.
She told me to hang up when she got done laughing.;)

I had about 5 hours. My ex best friend just called me all the time and talk about her crush and I used to give her advice over and over again but she would still ask me everytime I’m done giving. Like; “what was itttt?” Once I even gave the phone to my mom and let her do the work because I was tired of saying the same thing for a month everyday every hour.

An all nighter. Once. Never again.

That is so funny @lucillelucillelucille :D Bit like rocking shopping trolleys when you see women with babies.

@QueenOfNowhere, seems fair enough if you had to keep repeating yourself? Perhaps get a recorded message you can play?

@zen had to be a women. Must have been love or the hope of love :-)

Several all-nighters, all with boyfriends, and all in my teen years. Sometimes, we’d fall asleep on the phone. :)

I was just talking about this with my daughter, earlier tonight! She said she hates talking on the phone with friends because it gets awkward after a few minutes. I was trying to explain to her that the phone was the only option we had back then, if we wanted instant communication, and that it wasn’t unusual to spend hours talking about nothing much. Just like she does with texting!

@Bellatrix Hahaha I wish I thought of that before! lol

@augustlan my stepmother put a lock on our phone to stop us (well me!) calling out. I was a sneaky little bugger though and I knew that if you pressed the buttons down in the cradle you could call out. I hope I can explain this, so if you wanted to make a call to 998 2981, you had to press the buttons 9 x then 9 x then 8 x and then 2 etc. etc. and the call would go through. So, I still made calls it just took me a hell of a lot longer to get through :D

8 hours with my fiancee ( She phoning me in the Netherlands). The phone bill was a 114 pounds. Oops.

Bellatrix's avatar

@Bart19 with the cost of airfares coming down, if you keep that up it would be cheaper to fly there!

This just made me remember when we only had one phone in the house, tethered to the wall in the kitchen. It had an extra long cord on it, so to get some privacy I’d take it into the hall bathroom to talk. Once I got my own phone, I pretty much lived in my bedroom when I was home. ;)

We had timed calls in the UK. So you had to pay for every minute you were on the phone. I love not having timed calls in Australia. I only have to argue with my son about bringing the phone out of his room when he has finished with it. The phone rings, you can hear it, but you can’t find either of the handsets OR they are completely flat.

I’ve no idea, maybe an hour or so & then my ear was buzzing like a bee with a stutter :¬(

Actually it was with another Jelly…well over 10 minutes…maybe a couple hours! Lol ;)

Eight and a half hours with someone I met on facebook. We never met in person though.

@augustlan I remember those days of having only one phone in the living room and trying to stretch the cord to the kitchen hoping no one could hear. There were four kids in my family, so we had a 15 minute time limit. You can not have a good conversation in just 15 minutes!

Five hours, 2 days ago, on hold for financial aid. Yeah, I never got into the whole phone call thing.

Six hours long distance to the United States with my wife to be ( now ex).

AshLeigh's avatar

Six hours with my best friend/ex boyfriend.
Saddest coversation of my life. I think I cried for four of those hours…

I don’t like to be on the phone that much, so I just stick to short ones, between 10 minutes and 45 minutes.

My grandson has been spending nearly every waking hour on the phone with his girlfriend, but now she’s moving in with us, so that will probably end.

five hours!

Without a pause I had one about 30 hours with a female friend a few years ago.
[ if I think about it and you are willing to accept a sleep break then I had for about 3 days. We were talking and we both fall asleep on the phone with them on and when we woke up we continued. The phones were charging for both so we could have continue the conversation without a stop ]
That was for a phone conversation.

My record for a skype call without a break is for about a week. When we got tired of talking we just put the call on hold and continued when we felt like talking again. I am proud of it. I think I still have a screen shot for it, I’ll try to find it.

I think @Hibernate wins the “who has had the longest phone call battle”. A week! On skype and 30 hours on a phone call… my ear would have died.

Given they say women talk on the phone, there are some guys here who are really holding their own and @Aethelflaed five hours on hold??? That should win some sort of award for patience.

Thank you everyone for all your responses. I wonder how our young people will look back on their communication with their friends in years to come. @augustlan mentioned the long cord on the phone so we could talk in private with our friends and @YARNLADY and her son and his girlfriend (and so many of you talking on the phone on special people at different times. Somehow, being on Facebook for 15 hours doesn’t have the same ‘ring’ to it.

Thanks again everyone.

At least 8 hours—with friends in college. I’ve also had a couple 8 or 9 hour IM sessions. There was one guy in high school and college that I’d have regular 6 hour conversations with.

When I was in high school and college, I could only use something called a TTY to talk to my friends and the only reason we’d hang up was because my mother would be yelling at me to get the #$^#$)#@ off the phone.

Hibernate's avatar

I had some issues with my hand not with the ears. Most of the time at work/home I keep headphones and loud music or loud chats. I didn’t even notice where the time went when I was on the phone.

Hibernate's avatar

Well I did one of them but we didn’t want to keep it for too long.

Here it is

P.S. I deleted the chat from inside the picture.
