What book should I read if I liked Unbroken?

Asked by pallen123 (1519points) July 31st, 2011

I know I like historical narratives and I have a 4 hour plane flight in the morning. I really liked Unbroken and the style of writing. Can anyone suggest something equally riveting?

A Town Like Alice fits the bill, but it is unlikely that you will be able to get your hands on a copy before tomorrow morning. Just put it on your ‘To Read’ list. You won’t regret it.

After reading about The Unbroken, I think you might like Sir Ernest Shackleton’s story.

He led the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition of 1914–17. Their ship was trapped in and finally crushed by the ice. It took a couple of years, but they all made it back to civilization alive.

It’s an incredible story of people overcoming seemingly impossible odds.

@Pied_Pfeffer – I have spent a fair bit of time in the Alice but have never read that book. And I do like Nevil Shute. I am going to hunt for a copy. Thanks for the heads up (even though I wasn’t the one to ask the question, heheheh! You should look up the movie, Sampson and Delilah, it was filmed all around Alice and is a pretty true pic of the sad stuff that goes on there.)
