Is it true that no secrets will remain buried?

Asked by mazingerz88 (29260points) July 31st, 2011

One of my close friends just had sex with his longtime live-in girlfriend’s best friend. They agreed to keep the secret to their graves. Do they have a good chance of keeping it buried more so than the opposite-? They are in their mid-40’s and quite mature except of course for that bedroom encounter.

Well if you know, even if you’re a close friend, the secret’s already out! It may not get back to the girlfriend, but it will probably get around to others.

The only way three people can keep a secret is if two of them are dead.

It depends on the secret, I feel, and the number of enemies they have. You know the secret, so somebody else does also probably and in a moment of anger or ignorance one of the at least four of you could tell his girlfriend and everything would ignite like the Hindenburg. So no, I don’t think this one will. If he had a one night stand in a hotel somewhere with a girl he didn’t know, that secret would unless she had an STD.

Also, keep that dude’s girlfriend off of Fluther, now that it’s on here, she’s all the more likely to find it

Run for office and I’m sure it will come out one way or another :D

Seriously though, the only way to really keep a secret is to make sure nobody else cares to know. Even if you never tell anyone, someone somewhere will find out if they care enough to try.

In your friend’s case, probably not, but there are plenty of secrets that I’ll be carrying to the grave. So in my case, no it’s not true.

I was given a secret to keep in 1973, I have never told anyone, and never will. So it is possible.

Some secrets can be kept till the death. It all depends on how much they want to keep it hidden.

A secret will ever so remain as such if it is never told by the person holding it. At least in most cases.
Although I’ve always been of the mind that diaries only exist because the person writing it wants to share something. Same with secrets. Don’t want people to know, don’t fuckin say lol, not even to Lucifer Himself.

I have some secrets that I will never tell anyone. I know some secrets that I will never tell anyone from friends and ex-boyfriends. I suppose I believe that there are some things better left buried.

@DrBill I too was given a lot of other peoples’ secrets, but not from 1973. I’m impressed. I have some knowledge of secrets that would destroy people and relationships if I said anything—I know about secret abortions, affairs and some other things. Just knowing how much I’d hurt others by saying anything keeps my mouth shut.

It is possible that your friends and you can keep this secret, as long as the circumstances don’t change too much.
