I don’t know if there is anyone that could pull it off. Freddie was such an amazing original. Jagger might be a possibility. They both had the strut.
Ali G is perfect for that role. I wonder if he’ll wittle down his teeth to match Freddie’s?
@Adirondackwannabe Lol all I’ve ever seen him in is Borat and… the really gay dude who’s name I can’t remember, but it’s another SNL impression… So, I’m not a fan of his, but I assume this will have less butt-bleaching scenes, so that would be an improvement.
@Aethelflaed He looks a little like Freddie, but Freddie was a much more complex guy than Cohen, I don’t think he could pull it off.
It should be Mika. Sounds similar and everything.
My friend Tom looked exactly like him.I don’t think he would have worn the harlequin pants though..
Robbie (not Robin) Williams.
Johnny Depp.
Daniel Ratcliffe (for the younger years).
I saw a Queen musical in Vegas that the lead who played Freddie was incredible! Don’t know his name but he nailed Freddie’s voice and mannerisms.
Cohen is an extremely good actor, he just usually chooses to do roles that make him an ass. He also bears a striking resemblance to Mercury, and I have few doubts about his ability to portray someone as flamboyant yet masculine as Mercury was.
Personally I think its a great choice.
@tedd What stuff is he a good actor in?
I personally love the Ali G character, and look forward to seeing him portray Mercury.
@Aethelflaed Uhhh, everything. Ali G, Bruno, Borat….. The characters themselves are a-holes, and ridiculous….. But that doesn’t change that he is able to hold character and act as said ridiculous person would act, in the most compromising situations possible.
Even when signing autographs and stuff, he will not break character for one second. He fully immerses himself into the character, and that is a trademark of good actors… no matter how crummy the material is, you fully immerse yourself.
Some friends and I went and saw him during his promotion swing for Borat. One of my friends was jewish and this came up somehow, and he like backed away from her cringing and afraid…. some random girl he just met in a crowd of thousands.
I miss Freddie Mercury :-( He really was one of kind and gone too soon. It’ll be interesting to see just how Sasha Cohen will be able to pull it off.
I wonder how soon this’ll be released. Off to Google.
I think Jim Carrey could do it. I loved the serious side of his acting in Eternal Sunshine.
@josie Good one actually. Or his father
The resemblance is quite big.
SBC all the way. He’s capable!
No-one could pull off he singing.
Tim Curry could pull it off, although he is a bit old for the part.
I’m not a big Jim Carrey fan, but he would probably be able to pull it off.
However, I think Johnny Depp would be my first choice.
I’m totally with @rebbel on this. Robbie Williams did a fantastic job with Queen. He doesn’t look exactly like the inimitable Freddie but he captures the drama, excitement and spirit that was Mercury.
I don’t know his name, but the kid who starred in the “We Will Rock You” show that was in Vegas a few years ago was amazing.
@Judi I imagine it was Tony Vincent. He has also performed live with the remaining memebers of Queen.
It was one of the best shows I have ever seen. I am so sad they canceled it. It raised my expectations for Mama Mia. I hated it.
Happy Birthday, Freddie!!!
