What can I do about this sunburn(s)?

Asked by blueberry_kid (5957points) August 7th, 2011

I have sunburn on my neck, arms, and forehead. It’s already started peeling. It doesn’t hurt, but it does look really gross.

My skin on my face is splotchy. Like, there are spots on my face where it’s tan and there are spots where it isn’t.

Is there a way to treat it?

So that it looks less gross? Not really. You can put some cocoa butter or shea butter on there, and that’ll help the healing process, but for now, not so much. Maybe some concealer or a strong foundation?

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!! cocoa butter and shea as @Aethelflaed has said. Also

My best piece of advice I have is to make sure you use SPF or wear clothing over those areas every time you leave the house for the next week, to make sure you don’t continue to expose that skin to the burning rays of the sun. You should protect yourself all the time, but especially right now. Aloe is good for healing burns, but sounds like you are past being burnt and just shedding off the damaged skin. Keep the area moisturized, but if the skin is rather raw, lotions and creams can be less than ideal, ointments are probably better, like A and D ointment, but of course that is greasy, and very heavy for the face.

@JLeslie wear clothes on my forehead?

@blueberry_kid Well, you can wear a hat, and also put on suntan lotion. At minimum I would wear the suntan lotion. People get into trouble when they are out longer than they expected. They leave without sun protection on, and wind up outin the sun longer than expected because they run into a friend and start talking, stuff like that. Probably if you go to the beachor pool in the next month you will be very careful, but you need to be careful all the time, especially now.

You can use tape to pull off loose skin. Then moisturize to ease the irritation.
