Why can people be obsessed with celebrities?
Why do people like celebrities a lot? For example, let’s say an actor. Girls have his posters, think he is the hottest thing… But what about the “real world” for her, why can’t she do the same with someone she actually knows.

Lol!
A lot of people watch television.
Our natural or cultivated desire to worship? I have no idea, but it seems really sad.
So what if they watch tv?
This isn’t just girls with posters on their walls. Grown men walk around with Red Sox shirts with the name of some dude on it. If I walked around with a tshirt that said “Brad Pitt” on the back, I’m sure I’d get some heckles or ”cough gay! cough”. But for some reason, it’s ok for grown men to have Pedroia on the back of their shirt. Pedroia is a guy who wears a costume and throws/hits small balls for a living.
Celebrity worship is bizarre. It can be sports characters, movie/tv stars, or so-called royalty. I’m sure they are all real people when you really get to know them, but I will never know them, so I don’t give a flying shit.
Why? Because they like what they see.
Everyday people with everyday lives tend to like to live vicariously through those whose lives seem more interesting.
I think people get caught up in celebrity worship because they believe the celebrities have a life they wish, and they can somehow live that life through the celebrity. That somehow if they can get to know or get the celebrity to know them, if even possible, it will bring some validation, or increased worth to their lives, so they can say I met this person or that. They do direct that sort of attention to people they know, it comes in the form of infatuation. The idea of loving someone who is larger than them selves. I think it is a foolish waste of time, but some one gets to make lots of bank off of them……
Celebrities don’t usually tell their fans that they’re creepy for wallpapering their rooms with their photos, but ‘real world’ people typically do. It’s a shame, really!
