Have you ever asked a question that got you erroneously maligned?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) August 7th, 2011

Have you ever asked a legitimate question but because it was an issue people take personally, gender issues, corporal punishment, crime of rape, feminism, religion, etc, where someone based off the question made a determination as to your character or nature? Off what subject did they label you and you were labeled as what?

Don’t think so…

Yep.

I asked a question about misconceptions of homemakers/stay at home parents and was told by a few that I was being all “woes me” because I was looking for support. I also had a Flutherite tell me they felt sorry for my husband because he had to deal with all the stress of supporting my family financially. (whatever).

Thanks to a kind Flutherite I found a very supportive site for moms and spend more time there than here.

Yes, I asked a question about why some women can be catty, wondering what their motivation was, and a bunch of people got butt hurt about it. I apologized and admitted I should have reworded it, but it didn’t matter. Even when I referenced my correction. That was annoying.

Nope. I’ve worked hard and earned every last bit of the way I am maligned.

@jonsblond I also had a Flutherite tell me they felt sorry for my husband because he had to deal with all the stress of supporting my family financially. (whatever). I guess one could say in rebuttal that their children should be pitied because they don’t have their mother waiting when they return home from school.

@cockswain Yes, I asked a question about why some women can be catty, wondering what their motivation was, and a bunch of people got butt hurt about it. That is a legitimate question to me. I have been told many times by women, that they always have men friends because they get along better with them, over women. I think it is a very good question.

@woodcutter <Gasp!> No one ever told me you were against hillbillies!! Seriously, I guess that was a memo I missed. Had I gotten it I would have round filed it anyhow.

I don’t think so, no.

Not that I know… But people can get way emotional and start taking things to levels deeper than you mean the question to be. It gets very irritating especially because I keep expecting this site to be a bunch of grown up, at least mature, people who can discuss an idea or chose to ignore a question if they feel either way.

Yes, I’ve had this happen a few times here @Hypocrisy_Central. Like @jonsblond I just found another place to hang.

A long time ago, I was labeled a male pedophile in a PM. That is not malignant behavior but clinical bonkerism.

augustlan's avatar

@woodcutter Writing standards… you used “u” for “you”. It wasn’t me, btw.

@gailcalled Whaaaaaaaaaat! In a PM? Oh, no, Joe say it ain’t so!!! Wha…......?

Eh, not that I know of. Not how you describe anyways. No doubt some people perhaps had/have some negative thoughts about me based on shit I asked, but I’m not really aware of it.

You can’t please all the people all the time. There will always be someone who disagrees with you. That is the way of life. Some are less polite than others. That says more about them than you. Your reaction to the disagreement, says something about you.
