Socks with sandals always seemed like a silly idea to me. Either it’s warm enough for just sandals or it’s cool enough for shoes.

No, no, a thousand times no. I have almost no fashion sense and even I know that socks with sandals is a bad idea. Unless they’re the only shoes you have and you’re escaping a fire.
