What are the standards for appointing moderators on Fluther?

Asked by incendiary_dan (13406points) August 9th, 2011

It seems we’ve been talking more about the role of moderators on the site lately, and things like political and religious inclinations and how that might influence things. It got me to wondering about how they’re chosen. I’ve moderated on other sites, and usually it’s mostly to do with demonstrating an ability to maintain the guidelines. On a site with a sort of intellectual focus like Fluther, are there intellect-related standards? Other qualities? What say our friendly mod squad?

I’m curious to know also.

I was trying to find a post in which Auggie answered this in the past, but no luck. If I remember correctly, potential moderators are suggested based on the amount of time and frequency of their visits, the quality and helpfulness of their posts, and the ability to get along with other users. Then they are approached to see if they have the time and interest needed to help maintain the quality of the site.

Did anybody send this to Auggie? Other than me, I mean?

From a previous answer to this question:

Level-headed, even-keeled, fair-minded. A site regular (not necessarily a long-time member, but one who is on the site often). Someone who will complement the current group of mods (notice I said complement not compliment :P ), since we like to have a well-rounded team. Sometimes we further narrow the search to those in certain time-zones, too.

We get our suggestions from member recommendations, current mods, and people who nominate themselves. So, feel free to suggest someone (including yourself) if you think they’d be good at the job! When we need to add new mods, I mull over all of the options and decide who we’d like to ask to join us. Then, the hazing begins.

**PS: Suggestions should be made via PM to me. Thanks!

Level-headed, even-keeled, fair-minded” I’ve never been asked.~

@chyna I haven’t been asked yet either =(.

Wonder why?

lol @FutureMemory and @chyna me either :D I think it could be the even-keeled bit that lets me down…

I keep hoping, so Katawagrey and I can form a Mod Power Bloc and dominate Fluther, from there it’s a short step to taking over THE WORLD!!!

Hahahaha I know why I haven’t ever been asked, ”and the ability to get along with other users.”, and ”Someone who will complement the current group of mods” pretty much rules me out. Too left for the liberals, and to conservative, of the conservatives, way to much sarcasm, which I serve very dry, the ability to bring the most level-headed Jelly from calm to spitting mad ion 2.4 second, not intentionally, it just happens. But I have the job of punching bad still. LOL LOL
