My normally straight hair is curly since I cut it. Anyone else have this happen?

So I cut about 8–10 inches off my hair last week. Since I had it cut, it’s got a fabulous curl to it. I once cut my hair from a similar length about 15 years ago, and it didn’t curl like this.

I know it’s likely going to straighten out as my hair gets used to the new length, because hair’s curl is determined by the follicle shape, but I’m curious. Has anyone else had this happen? How long did the curl last?
