We already do. If you mean a riot about this particular topic, then no.

Yes; I hate to think of this in New York City when the prices are impossible and if any benefits are cut off. I can imagine looting, teargas and even deaths. What would also scare me is the thought of all the food being gone in the stores. When people get hungry enough they’ll do almost anything to get it. A relative told me that in Kansas City they stop you in parking lots and try to sell you their food stamps for cash. A friend told me they’re begging on every street corner in Houston. I haven’t seen any of this on the news.

We may have some localized riots. But one big spontaneous nationwide riot, I don’t think so. We are too spread out for

The big difference I see is that in the US business owners are more able to used deadly force to protect their employees and patrons from threats to their lives. Heck in some states they can use deadly force to protect the property.

We already had a riot here last week. I’m certain there will be more.

Riots have been ramping up at a mall just a couple of miles from our home.

I should say, if someone assassinates Obama, you can forget everything I said. Then riots will probably be the least of our problems.

I will riot after Big Brother is over tonight. I hear that Jeff wins the veto.

@johnpowell Thanks for the heads up ;)

There have been plenty of riots in the U.S. over the course of it’s 235 year history and no reason, of course, to think that there never will be again but am I concerned? No.

Here’s a nice long list of major riots throughout history and around the world, a veritable riot of riots. Rioting is a very unpleasant but fairly common phenomenon in our species.

I am concerned they won’t! Too many people it seems expect that someone else will do the heavy lifting to bring about the change to make things right.

My concern lies in what Homeland Security will have in store for the US if there are riots.

lillycoyote's avatar

@Cruiser And that’s the way to do it? The only heavy lifting that happens during riots is when people are hauling away the T.V.s, microwaves and furniture they’ve looted.

Cruiser's avatar

@lillycoyote Riots do not have to be destructive…I would much rather have people riot than do nothing.

SpatzieLover's avatar

Riots are destructive. Protests can be peaceful.

@SpatzieLover
That is true but protest get taken over and become Riots.
I hope America can find a better solution.
I blame the Elitist for our problems.

lillycoyote's avatar

@Cruiser Riots don’t have to be destructive? Huh? Rioting without the destruction isn’t riot. What do rioters do in a non-destructive riot? Can you please tell me what a non-destructive riot might look like?

We have a saying: when your neighbour’s shirt tail is on fire, pour water on your own. Riots occur when something is out of whack, and it often has to do with governance. The goings-on in the developed world, especially in the U.S., has a lot of people nervous.
